Weird SoF graphics after reinstalling laptop

Post by Hayo »

What I know so far:

- SoF installed on a freshly installed Windows 7 32bits laptop.
- Default SoF settings (clicked on the options/screen thing)
- F11 shows black screenshots
- Windows is telling me my driver is up to date
- I using tried this site http://support.amd.com/US/Pages/AMDSupportHub.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; but so far it aint helping me.
- I also tried SoF1 ref_gl.dll patched from sof serverlist site.
- Just saw marrocctf and I didnt see any weird textures/overbrightness on there.

It kind of has to be a graphic driver issue but I thought Windows 7 always installed drivers right away.

I remember I had this too when I installed SoF on my laptop for the first time. I thought the fix from the serverlist website helped me but it doesnt seem to help now.

edit: Just saw a person spawning right behind their backdoor on irqctf1 and could see them through the wall walk up to their shotty while entering their base from under the nades. this is messed up.

- Already tried reinstalling twice.

- I never tried the community version, still using the SoF Special Edition which I bought for 30 gulden years ago. Maybe I should look into that tomorow, still think its more of a video driver bug but its worth a try.

- Tried xp compatibility mode but didnt work, also tried running as admin and the 256 color thing.

try to install ATI Tray Tools: http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=733" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Run it as administrator and make a profile for SoF. Then edit the profile to high performance and disable all the useless parts (vsync, anti aliassing etc.).

If that doesn't work try the community version and start hoping :mrgreen:

Update your drivers.

You honestly think that Windows database contains the latest drivers ?
No they don't lol, Windows drivers database for windows 7 is as old as windows 7 itself. Besides I wonder if they even work for games. Those videodrivers from windows has one purpose: to activate the aero ability of windows vista and windows 7.

This is the exact driver you need for your type videocard:

http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/w ... n7-32.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

And if it still doesn't work: try reinstalling your sof, I bet those fixes you tried will break your sof instead of repairing.

And use the microsoft update tool.

Oh just saw you're using only windows 7 drivers...

If thats the case, i'd advice you to get Driver Genius (through torrent for example), it's what I always use after formatting a pc. Installs the latest drivers for any of your devices.

- ATI Tray tools did not work, it gave an error.
- Direct driver download was I already tried, it is telling me its not compatible.
- Will now look into Driver Genius, if that doesnt work I'll give the community version a go.

Well it's obviously not working for him, is it? Not the first one who had to update or install older drivers to make it work.

Looks like you still have to update quite a lot, even the chipsets :biggrin:.
Don't forget to run your Windows updates, to install stuff like .NET Framework, hotfixes, servicepacks, ...

Obvious, all sof problems these days are related to drivers issues. Community Edition has been tested on all windows versions.
