my TOP of maps. Many thanks to the people who made them

Post by GStuff002 »

I want to express my deep gratitude to the developers of these maps.
These maps are both genial and simple and cool.
For a long time I chose among the many, but the choice fell on these

Sometimes it amazed my imagination how beautifully it was done!!

It is in this order and queue that I placed the maps rotation. I think it will be very thoughtful
After a small map comes more big, after a dark one comes a light one, after a good Deathmatch comes a fun, etc.
The order is this - an easy map then the one on which it need to fight hard

My maprotation.lst

In Maps + map fixes Forum, you can find all CTF and DM maps with their screenshots. First two stickies

https://www.sof1.org/viewforum.php?f=84" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Don't ditch the maps made for CTF, (you mentioned on Discord) most are huge but there are some smaller ones that are okay to play DM. CTB or even Assassin mode on.

Just because the map is CTF, it does not mean you have to play CTF, and when you load a CTF map in a DM server, their be no flags to capture, you just play deathmatch on a CTF map.

Standard CTB and Control maps are nice too.

I reviewed everything in about three days...From morning till night
I Don't ditch the maps made for CTF

I'm more than sure that I didn't see exactly everyone, but there were a lot of them, enough for three days of hard running and watching

I just chose which would be ideal for the first server to introduce people to the excellent game SOF1. For my home local network, for people who did not play it. About screenshots...I just wanted to take screenshots myself, choose a best side, angle..

First time in SOF1 I played on Dreamcast, it was amazing. Now most of the new generation only look at the graphics in the game, it is sad

I wanted to make the server simple and fun, with simple maps but interesting.

But while the work is half done, there is not enough music for each maps. For refresh the perception and feel comfortable and that everyone is participating in crazy fun

For example on the map "[rdam] _skate_or_die_ctf" I wanted to add some one music from Tony Hawk's Pro Skater series . It will be match well with the map, especially for those people who played in THPS.

I don't know if Acadie will help with adding music. There are attempts but no result right now, it's all difficult for me

The topic is different, but I will add one time

One very good map needs a FIX, i looked at the script and tried different fixes it, but it didn't help

The map is called "bomb_train" on it can not hear the sound of the train, - the sound of the wheels on the sleepers and the beep

If it add in entitiies the command "start music" "1" then the sound will be with the some kind of music but not with a train sound

Similar map "deathtrain" on this one there is a train sound

Map links:

bomb_train ---- Soundless

That's is i was talking about. Well-chosen music to the map is a guarantee of fun. I skated and even alone it was fun. The idea behind this map is simple and ingenious.

The weapon is not the main thing here. You need to learn how to skate quickly and throw grenades and C4 on opponents, grenades on this map give thousands of pieces. The more people on this map, the more meat and madness. Need to react very quickly and dodge...

Complete archive.All done for play:
https://easyupload.io/789utq" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Sound mix for map the_ice_rink:
https://easyupload.io/h1tgn4" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
https://easyupload.io/xa5obc" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

This is wav's for a script with a timer. The timer must be set for 47 seconds.

I used two scripts at the same time for pseudo stereo sound effect
{
"target" "amb"
"wait" "47"
"spawnflags" "1"
"origin" "0 0 0"
"classname" "func_timer"
}
{
"targetname" "amb"
"volume" "1.0"
"attenuation" "-1"
"spawnflags" "4"
"noise" "the_ice_rink-L.wav"
"origin" "0 0 0"
"classname" "target_speaker"
}
{
"target" "amb"
"wait" "47"
"spawnflags" "1"
"origin" "0 0 0"
"classname" "func_timer"
}
{
"targetname" "amb"
"volume" "1.0"
"attenuation" "-1"
"spawnflags" "4"
"noise" "the_ice_rink-R.wav"
"origin" "0 0 0"
"classname" "target_speaker"
}

It is a pity that there is a big limitation with this script, but I can't add music differently

Added on 20.11.21
Also i found another music that it fits to this map. Music is called: "Circus-Theme-Entry-of-the-Gladiators-Strings-Version"

Another music mix that is suitable for a map "[r & b] zero_g"
Unfortunately, i using a script with a timer, so that the music starts after 0:59 seconds

This interval is 0:59 sec. at the beginning of silence, I think to fill with original noise:

Example:
"startmusic" "1"
"musicset" "DM2"

My added music after 0:59 sec, is louder, will then cover this noise

I'm trying to find at least some compromise to arrange the map in the best possible way....(

The music is partly cosmic, other motivational and fun

I invite to evaluate, link: https://easyupload.io/5ufv3g" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

One more for you pleasure
I search music from my memory and choose to fit it to the environment

Map called "[r&b]king_of_the_hill"
Again with grenades, I'm just confused of limitations the script and I do not dare to work with a full track of music, i'm just doing mix's for now

Music run after 2:06 min. The original music from SOF1 will be played first until 2:06 min. What I said above. It is necessary to reduce the volume of the music in the SOF1 setting to half, so that at the start the new music drowns out the original

Link: https://easyupload.io/5q6xi4" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Now you can compare how the new music freshens up the map. I quickly throw the grenades from the top of the hill and imagine how it would look with real opponents, I think it would be fun

You finally responded to my Discord PM.

bomb_train map is not broken, the author made it how he wanted to make it.

And it is also "made" for "defuse" mod by Silver Forces I believe. That mod requires the server to be set to CTF mode but it doesn't mean you can not play deathmatch on it.

Only sure way to change maps is to have the .qkm file then recompile which would create a new map that requires a new name, players will have to download this new map and all the new sounds, textures and what have you. Then you have .map.

Adding, removing or changing entities as much as does not change the .bsp are not considered proper specially if the map author is still around or active, like nottmoto, Acadie, ChAoS. So, only way is to mod and thanks to SoFplus, customizing servers are made easier.

Having said that, for some of the things you want added, you do require to edit the .qkm which I have never seen included with the releases. You also need to understand Scripts, Hex Editors and such.

The timmer function is available in every map (from what I was told) and that is the reason you can use it as a work around. If you were to add music while building a map in an editor, you do not necessarily use that function.

I do not know if there are models available at our disposal like the timmer function, Acadie or CheaterSkeeter would know.

With SoFplus, you can create your own Functions (not talking about functions used in the editors/ maps) Check the SoFplus folder in User Server then, addons and read the readme.

I run LAN Parties as well but it is more like WAN Parties, still not Public.

It has been couple weeks if not more since I asked you to join a server to talk about few things, a lot easier on a server to discuss and try things.

You seem reluctant.

I didn’t answer because I didn’t join into discord, I did wav's mixes. It takes a lot of time, I don't just add music, but think over everything to the smallest detail, what weapons are on the map. What distance the map is large or small, it affects the choice of the speed of music, etc.

You have no idea how difficult it is for me to understand English, i do not keep up with you to translate in google translator in Discord. What to say about live communication via microphone...in game server.

With the bomb_train map, it do not need to invent new cvar commands, it can use the standard "musicset" "trn", but music either does not play or plays another. I don’t know why, probably something is wrong in the script

We can help and make the posts short, easier with translator.

mic and voice chat is possible. If you are in USA, I have unlimited USA calling from Canada.

Check all the standard music that comes with SoF, I am sure you'll find some that you'd like. They are in the pak files.

Then all you need are startmusic and musicset set in Worldspawn.

It is suitable for standard maps but not for custom. All original music is monotonous, after playing the second map the desire to play further disappears, I want to fix it and refresh it for more fun

This list is incomplete and it is missing all the screenshots for DM.

The funny part is I cannot believe that it is only now (since the time you made your post) I remember where you can find the real complete list.
https://www.sof1.org/gallery/album.php?album_id=155" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I'm not sure if it is possible to edit the two sticky topic using the screenshots that are uploaded in my gallery. One time, I made a test by sending a PM to myself in which I inserted an image from my gallery into my post. After a while, something went broken and the image wasn't showing anymore. :dntknw:
